About Vicinity Corporation
Mission
Vicinity's mission is to localize the Web for
businesses and consumers through its unique blend of Yellow Pages and GeoEnabled content
and services.
Business Model
Vicinity is a Web-based service company (not a
software products company) that supplies private-label localizing services to businesses
that use the World Wide Web to deliver information and services to the Web community.
Customers brand Vicinity services with their own company and service name and add their
own graphical wrapper and overall look, feel, and attitude. Vicinity realizes revenue from
usage-based fees and advertising services.
Background
Founded in August 1995, Vicinity Corporation has
established itself through key partner/customer alliances as the premier supplier of
localized content and services exclusively for the World Wide Web. Vicinity Corporation is
a member of the CMG Information Services family of Internet-focused companies, which also
includes Black Sun Interactive, CyberVillages Corp., Freemark Communications, GeoCities,
Ikonic, Lycos, NetCarta, PinPaper, Planet Direct, and TELET Communications. Vicinity uses
high quality digital maps and navigation-quality databases from Etak, Inc., the leading
supplier of digital road maps.
